Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bat

Essex trail Nottinghamshire by 95 runs with seven wickets standing

Inclement weather conditions ensured there was no play on day three of Essex’s LV Insurance County Championship encounter with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

Heavy rain hindered the home sides’ progress as they looked to secure victory with a day to spare.

Steven Mullaney’s 117 had carried Notts clear after the champions had been skittled for 99.

Shane Snater offered some resistance with career-best figures of 7/98. But with Essex four wickets down and 95 runs adrift in their second innings, Notts remain on course should play resume on Sunday at 11am.
