Rampant Ramblers too strong for Old Boys

Leigh Ramblers 3-0 Old Southendian

LEIGH RAMBLERS remain in contention for the ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division title after recording a routine 3-0 victory over Old Southendian at Belfairs Park.

The two sides grappled amicably with the blustery conditions. Nevertheless, the Ramblers class told. Andrew Webster netted twice, while Matt Allum was also on target as the home side closed the gap on leaders, Sungate, to three points.

The result leaves the Old Boys in ninth place, four points above the relegation zone.

Speaking to Yellow Sport after the match, Old Southendian boss, Connor Lane, explained: “Ramblers deserves to win today. They were clinical and we were not.

“We battled hard to get something from the game, but we didn’t have enough quality on the day against a side brimming with confidence.

“This fixture is a good rivalry. They are up on us this season, but we will be doing everything we can to bounce back next term.”
