Cheltenham Town v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – Jonny-Rocks Stadium – Saturday 3pm – Preview
Ray Crawford breathed a huge sigh of relief after Colchester United comfortably saw off Essex rivals, Southend United to all but secure their Football League place following an otherwise disappointing campaign.
The U’s made it back-to-back Sky Bet League Two victories with another impressive display in which they played on the front foot and didn’t allow the Shrimpers any time to settle in what was otherwise a fairly routine success.
“I know we perhaps need another point, but I’m absolutely delighted and above all, relieved,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“We did very well on Saturday against Walsall and followed it up with an even better performance in the derby.
“There have been several big performances during the last two games. Michael Filivi has come of age, while Harry Pell took the game by the scruff of its neck on Tuesday, Southend resorted to kicking him in the end – they simply had no answer.”
And the former U’s frontman is backing Hayden Mullins’ men to secure that all-important point at promotion-chasing Cheltenham on Saturday, adding: “Why not? The momentum is with us. The team will be confident after the two wins – we have put down a marker.
“Of course, Cheltenham will provide a stiffer test than Southend and Walsall. But that’s the challenge these boys should now relish. If they didn’t care, they would have strolled about these last two games – they haven’t done that. They have rolled up their sleeves and got six points.
“It is all about finishing the season strongly now. Personal pride and proving that we have the foundations of a decent side.”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Cheltenham Town 1-1 Colchester United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Cheltenham Town 2-0 Colchester United
