Ray calling on Colchester to get the job done

Colchester United v Southend United – Sky Bet League Two – Jobserve Community Stadium – Tuesday 7pm – Preview

Ray Crawford was delighted to see Colchester United make a welcome return to winning ways and has urged them to take another step towards safety when struggling Essex neighbours, Southend United visit the JobServe on Tuesday evening.

The U’s came from behind to see off Walsall by the odd goal in three on Saturday: “We seemed to be playing with a lot more confidence, further up the field and creating plenty of chances,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“The win has come in the nick of time and has given us something to build on. We still have to be wary of Southend and Grimsby – be professional and get the points required, but Saturday was proof that we are capable of it.

“I thought the forward players worked extremely hard. We also showed a bit of character, fighting back to get a win.”

Looking ahead to the visit of Southend, Crawford added: “It will be a tense evening.

“I think a win for Colchester could be enough, but as for Southend, they simply have to win which might mean they take a few risks and leave themselves open?

“Southend has proved to be difficult to break down, but can’t find goals. If Colchester can get their noses in front, then I think we get the three points.

“It’s a sorry situation to see both of Essex’s professional teams towards the bottom of the league. But as a former player, I want Colchester to stay up and I want us to learn from what has been a pretty awful season and ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 1-1 Southend United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 0-0 Southend United
