Ray Crawford: Bantams should hold no fears for improving U’s

Bradford City v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – Valley Parade – Wednesday (7:45pm) – Preview

Ray Crawford insisted that Colchester United should focus more on the performance than the result following their Emirates FA Cup second-round exit at the hands of Sky Bet League One high-flyers, Wigan Athletic at the jobServe Community Stadium.

The U’s league form has improved of late, with Colchester picking up seven points from teh last twelve on offer: “I think the cup match was a good test and we a little unlucky not to get a replay,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“We’ve given a very good side a decent game. Hayden Mullins knows we are not the finished article off the back of a couple of good league results. But adding the battling cup performance suggested we might be a little further along than we first thought and that’s very encouraging.”

Colchester head to Bradford City on Wednesday evening, a side that has also struggled for consistency this season: “Bradford are always going to be hard to beat on their own patch, but I think we can go up there a little more confident than we might have a month ago,” Crawford added.

“The pressure remains on Bradford. There is a huge expectation there. They play in front of big crowds, who largely believe they should be amongst the promotion contenders.

“We have looked a little more secure at the back of late. The inclusion of goalkeeper, Jake Turner appears to have added a bit of cohesion. We are certainly looking harder to beat. Freddie Sears has begun to find the net more regularly, but we could do with someone else chipping in a bit more consistently. Creativity has been better but there remains room for improvement. Good signs, nonetheless.

“As ever, I’ll back the boys to get something. A share of the points wouldn’t be a bad return and that is what I’m predicting.

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Bradford City 1-1 Colchester United
