Ray Crawford: Colchester have to ‘get back on the horse’

Colchester United v Plymouth Argyle – JobServe Community Stadium – Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 3pm

Colchester United v Plymouth Argyle – Preview:

Ray Crawford admitted he was surprised to see Colchester United surrender their unbeaten Sky Bet League Two sequence at struggling Cambridge United but believes his former club have all the attributes to bounce back and sustain their challenge for promotion.

The U’s looked set to extend that run to eighteen games when Luke Norris nodded home midway through the second half.

But Cambridge levelled five minutes from time courtesy of Andrew Dallas before Harry Knibbs completed an amazing turnaround barely a minute later.
“We all knew the run couldn’t last forever, I’m just surprised it went at the weekend,” Crawford explained.

“Perhaps the Cambridge players responded after the sacking of their manager? Whatever it was, we were a goal up five minutes frm the end and with our defence, I would have thought we could have seen the game out.

“But the result goes to show how tight the league is. Anyone can beat anyone else on their day. Colchester now have to regroup and make sure this was just a blip.”

Looking ahead to this weekend and a huge clash with in-form Plymouth Argyle at the JobServe Community Stadium.

“This is a big game against a Plymouth team who are on a good run of their own. They are in the automatic promotion places are full of confidence – we will have to be at our very best.

“But we mustn’t lose sight that it’s only a couple of weeks ago that we beat the league leaders, Swindon – the game shouldn’t hold any fears for the U’s.

“It’s important that we get ‘back on the horse’ as quickly as possible and don’t allow the top three places to become unachievable. John McGreal will be in the player’s ears all week. They know exactly what is required.”
