Colchester United v Crawley Town – JobServe Community Stadium – Sky Bet League Two – Wednesday 3pm
Colchester United v Crawley Town – Preview:
RAY CRAWFORD believes the Colchester United support should be pretty satisfied with their lot just now.
The ten-man U’s played out a pulsating 2-2 draw with fellow promotion hopefuls, Exeter City, last time out – extending their unbeaten Sky Bet League Two sequence to nine matches and leaving them just three points off the automatic promotion places.
“We’ve looked pretty good, haven’t we,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“The first half of the season has been very exciting. The cup run, the upturn in league form – it’s all about holding our nerve now and giving the supporters promotion at the end of the season.
“We are matching or beating the sides around us – John McGreal has found a system that works and appears to have a team willing to dig deep to get the results. The fans must be satisfied with what they are seeing.”
Colchester host Crawley Town on New Year’s Day, a side they have already faced twice this season: “The league performance was a blip but the boys certainly put things right when they went there in the Carabao Cup – a dominant display which has optimised Colchester of late.
“Of course, the flip side is that Crawley proved in that first game that they are more than capable, especially if Colchester take their eye off the ball.
“But we must be confident at the moment – especially at home. We have to start at a high tempo and try to get an early goal. If we can get in front, then I don’t see Crawley coming back.
“This Colchester team are giving everything. I hope the town start to take notice, turn up at the JobServe and help them to the next level.”
