Colchester United v Carlisle United – JobServe Community Stadium – Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 3pm

Colchester United v Carlisle United – Preview:

RAY CRAWFORD spoke proudly of Colchester United’s Carabao Cup heroes, but has urged everyone connected with the club to cherish the memories and move on to the important task of clinching promotion.

The U’s were beaten 3-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford in Wednesday’s quarter-final tie, despite keeping the Premier League side out for fifty-one minutes.

“Colchester can’t look back at the end of this season with regret – Every effort has to go towards promotion,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“The boys have done the club, the fans and the whole town proud. We have faced three Premier League teams in this club run – keeping a clean sheet for more than two and a half of those games.

“Of course, that is a positive. But now we have to use this as a springboard, starting Saturday. League form has been good – the manager needs to ensure focus is properly directed – ensure there is no cup hangover.

Crawford continued: “This is the best group of players we have had in some years. They now have to fulfil their potential and ensure they are playing at a higher level next season.

“I’ve said it before, home form is key – Colchester must win today. However, the spirit displayed against a very good Scunthorpe team last time out in the league, suggested we have the attitude and determination to see us over the line.”

On the visit of Carlisle, Crawford added: “They haven’t won in four matches but have drawn the last three. Their league position isn’t great, but recent results suggest Carlisle will be difficult to break down.

“But winning this type of game is bread and butter if you want to go up. Colchester need to be clever, confident and imaginative. We know what they are capable of – It’s up to the players to finish the job.”
