Colchester United v Salford City – JobServe Community Stadium – Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 3pm
Colchester United v Salford City – Preview:
RAY CRAWFORD has urged John McGreal and his Colchester United side to step up the tempo and see off Salford City as the U’s look to build further momentum and push for promotion come the end of the campaign.
Colchester currently occupy tenth place in Sky Bet League Two, four points off the play-off places and two places above Saturday opponents, who themselves have tasted defeat just once in their last five outings.
And the former U’s frontman believes these home matches will provide the platform for a top-seven finish: “You have to win your home games,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“Colchester have been good this season, but have lost at home to Cambridge United and Morecambe as well as drawing with Port Vale and Walsall – all matches I would have expected them to have won. That’s ten points lost, which would have had us top of the table. That is how important these games in front of your own crowd are.”
Crawford continued: “Salford have found their feet following promotion and have recently won at Mansfield and Newport, so they won’t be a pushover – far from it!
“But I think Colchester have goals in them – I think we are defensively as good as we’ve been in a few years. This is a game Colchester can, and should, win and I fully expect them to do exactly that.”
