Ray Crawford: It all feels pretty ominous at the moment

Colchester United v Walsall – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Without a win in six – Another Sky Bet League Two fixture was postponed at the JobServe Community Stadium…

Although Ray Crawford concedes there is very little his former club can do about the recent inclement weather conditions, he remains concerned that things are transpiring against the North Essex outfit as they become further unlocked in a desperate bid to avoid relegation.

Weather permitting, Colchester host Walsall at the weekend. The Black Country outfit has lost just two of their last ten: “It’s going to be an incredibly tough match and we can’t afford anything other than a victory,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“I hoped the Doncaster match would be played and we would move a bit further away from the bottom two. It wasn’t and we haven’t.

“To make matters worse, Forest Green won at Bradford and we dropped into the relegation zone. It all feels pretty ominous at the moment.

“As I’ve mentioned before, games in hand are only okay if you win them. Right now, we can’t seem to get over the line. Mentally, that will be troubling the players as well as the management. Together, we are up against it.”

Crawford added: “The Walsall game is huge. It’s a must-win. They all are from here on in.

“The Saddlers were beaten by Forest Green at the weekend and then drew at Barrow on Tuesday evening. But it doesn’t matter who we are playing right now. We can’t prioritise.

“The bottom line of it is that we are in serious trouble. Whether relegation has finally caught up with us will be decided over the coming weeks. Of course, I desperately want Colchester to stay up, but if we don’t, nobody can deny that it wasn’t coming.”

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 1-0 Walsall
