Colchester United v Grimsby Town – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Tuesday (7:45 pm) – Preview

Ray Crawford was delighted and relieved by battling Colchester United’s dramatic 3-2 Sky Bet League two victory at Crawley Town and insisted it has now arguably set up the biggest game in the club’s recent history when fellow strugglers Grimsby Town are the visitors to the JobServe Community Stadium on Tuesday evening.

A win for the U’s would relegate Forest Green Rovers and open up a four-point gap over next-to-bottom Sutton United: “It’s a massive match for Colchester,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“The win at Crawley has lifted everyone, particularly as we had played well against Wrexham and Stockport – both promoted at teh weekend – and got nothing.

“But the more I look at Tuesday, the more I think of its enormity. Grimsby are safe with a point, but we need all three. It’s going to be a tense occasion, that’s for sure.”

Crawford continued: “I know Colchester has been relegated from the EFL before, but football has changed. It won’t be as easy to bounce back this time. We need to win, stay up and rebuild. I believe that Danny and Nicky Cowley are the right men for the job. But as it stands, everything is in the hands of this group of players.

“The supporters gave the team excellent backing at Crawley on Saturday, and they will again on Tuesday night. The players proved at Crawley that they are capable. I know we still have work to do, even if we beat Grimsby, but it will be difficult for Sutton United, although I think you have to give them credit for how they have responded of late.

“But for me, this is all about Colchester United. I don’t care if we play wonderful football or simply fluke a win. I just want to see us get the three points.

“Come on Colchester – You’ve got this!”

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 1-0 Grimsby Town

Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 2-1 Grimsby Town
