Colchester United v Swindon Town – JobServe Community Stadium – Sky Bet League Two – Tuesday 7:45pm
Colchester United v Swindon Town – Preview:
COLCHESTER UNITED extended their unbeaten Sky Bet League Two sequence to fifteen matches with a resolute goalless draw at fellow-promotion hopefuls, Exeter City, on Saturday. Nevertheless, Ray Crawford believes the U’s will have to raise their game again when they face Swindon Town side who top the table and will be keen for revenge.
Colchester stunned the high-flying Wiltshire outfit with a resounding 3-0 success at the County Ground back in September thanks to a brace from Theo Robinson and one from Tom Eastman.
That rubbed further salt in the wound following another 3-0 victory for the U’s over the Robins at the first round stage of the Carabao Cup – Eastman, Courtney Senior and Brandon Comley the men on target
However, Swindon have proved to be one of the division’s most consistent sides and will be looking to back up Saturday’s trouncing of Port Vale with another dominant display in North Essex.
“It’s another big game and another huge challenge for Colchester,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“The run we are on suggests Swindon should be apprehensive about facing us, but they are top of the league for a reason and will know that a win of their own will send out a message to those in the chasing group.
“But Colchester have to make these situations all about them. They have proved what they are capable of. I like to see us turn a few of the drawn games into wins, but we have been difficult to break down and seem to be very confident.
“We probably have a situation where the top thirteen teams could still make at least the play-offs if they put a similar run together. Colchester has to make sure they stay in touch, stay focused and be ready to pounce if the teams above them falter.”
Crawford added: “Swindon are the top scorers in the league too. It should be a terrific match. Colchester now needs the town to turn out in force and get right behind them. That could be just as vital as we look to get back into League One and give these supporters something to celebrate.”
