Exeter City v Colchester United – St James Park – Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 3pm
Exeter City v Colchester United – Preview:
Ray Crawford insisted these are exciting times for Colchester United after the north Essex side extended their unbeaten Sky Bet League Two sequence to fourteen matches.
Despite being held to a goalless draw by fellow promotion-hopefuls, Bradford City, at the JobServe Community Stadium, Colchester moved into the final play-off place ahead of Saturday’s mouthwatering trip to second-placed Exeter City.
“What a season this is turning out to be,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“Tottenham and Manchester United in the cup, a long unbeaten run – John McGreal certainly has the U’s going in the right direction – it’s fantastic.
“I’m slightly disappointed that we haven’t beaten Bradford, especially at home. But a clean sheet and looking the more likely to win – this against one of the top sides – shows how far we have come. I just hope this side can see it through and get us up.”
Looking ahead to another huge clash at the weekend, Crawford added: “This is going to be a big test – Exeter are in fabulous form, having won four of their last five and they are level on points at the top.
“We played out a draw with them over Christmas – another game perhaps we should have won so it shouldn’t hold any fear for us. I don’t think there will be much in it, but Exeter are the home side, the higher placed side in the league – all the pressure is on them.
“You have to be in it to win it – and Colchester are very much in it. Everyone in the top ten still appears to have an opportunity to get in the play-offs if they put a run together. These boys should now be aiming higher than that. We are three points off the automatic places and I believe they can do it.”
