Forest Green Rovers v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – The New Lawn – Saturday (3pm)
Forest Green Rovers v Colchester United – Preview:
RAY CRAWFORD has been impressed with Colchester United defensively of late but insisted the strikers need to join the party, and quickly!
The U’s backline has kept four clean sheets in their last five matches in all competitions. Indeed, only six goals have been shipped in their opening seven Sky Bet League two matches. However, with the frontmen having registered just six of their own between them, Colchester currently finds themselves floundering in midtable, already six points adrift of the automatic promotion places.
“It’s simple – we need to score more goals,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“The defenders have been brilliant, everyone will agree about that. But we are already falling behind the top teams. We’ve dropped far too many points, particularly at home. The boys need to be far more ruthless – start putting sides away and get ourselves up that league.”
Ironically, Colchester’s opponents this weekend – Forest Green Rovers – are enduring a similar spell in front of goal. Although, their sequence of results has produced four wins and one draw from seven outings.
“The difference is, they have been winning,” Crawford continued.
“I don’t think there’s much difference between the two teams. Both watertight at the back, both struggling to fire in the final third. It’s small margins, but if Colchester can put it right quickly, they have a great opportunity to establish themselves as genuine promotion candidates.
“This is a time for the team to push on and get the crowd, the town on board. Of course, minds are on Tottenham’s visit in the cup. But the reality of it all is the supporters want to see a successful team, challenging at the top of the table.
“I’ve said before, Colchester has the players to do something in this division. We are not a million miles away, but its time to stand up and be counted whee finding the net is concerned.
