Ray Crawford: U’s will be chomping at the bit to put things right

Colchester United v Morecambe – JobServe Community Stadium – Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 3pm

Colchester United v Morecambe – Preview:

Ray Crawford shared the frustrations of Colchester United’s players and supporters following last weekend’s Sky Bet League One defeat at Crawley Town but insisted that John McGreal’s charges will be revved up to put things right when struggling Morecambe are the visitors to the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday.

Luke Prosser nodded the U’s in front at the Peoples Pension Stadium. However, Carabao Cup opponents, Crawley, hit back after the break, through Reece Grego-Cox and Mason Bloomfield to inflict a rare defeat on the North Essex side as well as ending their own four-match winless sequence.

“I understand the players held their own inquest after the game,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“They are an honest group, they have set their standards recently – every one of them will be counting the hours, keen to get back out there and put things right.”

“These things happen in football. You get on a run and start expecting to win every match. It sometimes kicks you when you don’t. It now down to the boys to respond positively and get the right result on Saturday.”

Crawford Continued: “Morecambe are bottom of the league, just as Stevenage were when they came to Colchester a couple of weeks ago. We will need to be patient, but ultimately need to be asking all of the questions right from the off.

“Morecambe must be respected, after all, it is eleven versus eleven. But Colchester can’t even contemplate losing this game. They need to prove to themselves and the fans that they are amongst the promotion-chasing pack for a reason.

“Morecambe have only won once this season. Their confidence will be fragile and if Colchester can get their noses in front early on, it could be a fruitful afternoon.

“Crawley was a disappointment, but it could prove to be the jolt Colchester need – a wake-up call. Hopefully, they can get back on the horse and prove that it was just a blip.”
