Macclesfield Town v Colchester United – Moss Rose – Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 3pm

Macclesfield Town v Colchester United – Preview:

RAY CRAWFORD was delighted that Colchester United now had a huge cup giant-killing to rival that famous victory over Leeds, but has urged the U’s players to get focused on Saturday’s trip to Macclesfield – In his mind, an equally as important fixture.

Crawford told Yellow Sport he was ‘cock-a-hoop’ after Tom Lapslie’s decisive spot-kick had dispatched Tottenham from the Carabao Cup.

“It was amazing to see the picture of the fans all happy,” he enthused.

“The Crystal Palace game had woken the town up to the football club, now they must be on cloud nine. I hope a few more people will start clicking through the turnstiles now.

“No doubt, this was a huge game and has put Colchester United on the map. But everyone has to realise that promotion is the main ambition – We are all ecstatic after Spurs, but now need to focus on Macclesfield.”

Colchester travels to Moss Rose having lost just one of their last ten matches in all competitions – the U’s keeping five clean sheets during that impressive sequence.

“Defensively, Colchester has been brilliant this season,” Crawford added. The two clean sheets again Palace and Spurs are impressive. Premier League teams will have a lot of the ball – you need to concentrate one hundred per cent. But against League Two sides, you face a different threat as they are more direct. It’s more of a physical battle – so far, Colchester has stood up to both quite well.

“Macclesfield hasn’t won in five matches, they will want to be putting that right. But I think the U’s are on the crest of a wave at the moment and I expect them to bring home the three points again this week.”
