Ray predicting a grim weekend for the U’s

Grimsby Town v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – Blundell Park – Saturday 5:30pm – Preview

It’s undoubtedly a Sky Bet League Two six-pointer when Colchester United head to bottom of teh table Grimsby Town on Saturday evening. Unfortunately, former frontman, Ray Crawford can’t see them picking up one!

Having ended their fourteen-match winless sequence just over a week ago, back-to-back defeats at the hands of Newport County and Harrogate Town have plunged Colchester back in trouble, with little further signs of upward momentum.

“I might as well get it out the way – I think we’ll get beaten at Grimsby,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“It hurts me to say that because I love the club, but we have no momentum, no confidence and on the evidence of Tuesday and remaining quality had drained away too.

“Grimsby will be fighting for their lives and showed a bit of spirit at Carlisle during the week. I don’t think we’ve got it in us to match that. I just hope we have enough points that the bottom two are unable to catch us.”

Crawford continued: “I’m seeing what the fans are writing on social media. They are unhappy. The club can’t be unaware of that. The relationship appears fractured and I’m not sure how easy it will be to repair it?

“Colchester United face a real prospect of slipping out of the Football League. Promotion to the Championship, a new stadium and a bright future seems an awfully long time ago now. I just hope somebody has a watertight plan to get us out of this mess and make the fans proud again.”

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Grimsby Town 2-0 Colchester United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Grimsby Town 1-0 Colchester United
