Colchester United v Scunthorpe United – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Friday 7pm – Preview
A point on the road and a clean sheet might well be a small step in the right direction for out of sorts Colchester United. However, Ray Crawford remained unconvinced that his former club has turned the corner.
The U’s goalless draw at Stevenage extended their winless sequence to eight Sky Bet League Two matches. Ambitions of a play-off place now firmly on the backburner – worrying glances over their collective shoulder becoming a little more regular.
“We just don’t look like a team capable of winning at the moment,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.
“We had chances at Stevenage, but once again, it wasn’t a convincing performance. Colchester are not heading in the right direction just now.”
And Ray believed the Ups struggles will continue when lowly Scunthorpe United come to North Essex on Friday evening: “Two wins have pulled Scunthorpe away from the relegation zone and if they win this one, they could go above Colchester in the league,” Crawford added.
“The thing is, I don’t see any fight in the side at the moment. I know you need a bit of luck too, but we appear to be flat. It’s like the team have given up on the season.
“I’d like to think that’s not the case, but against a team like Scunthorpe, still looking to claw themselves clear of the relegation places, I just don’t see us matching them in the battle.”
Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 0-2 Scunthorpe United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 1-1 Scunthorpe United
