Ray urges U’s to be steely at in-form Iron

Scunthorpe United v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – Glanford Park – Tuesday 7pm – Preview

It’ll be a tough one, but Ray Crawford issued a battle cry to the Colchester United players ahead of their Sky Bet League Two trip to Scunthorpe United on Tuesday evening.

The U’s head to Glanford Park to face a much-improved Iron outfit who have lost just once in five outings. Meanwhile, Steve Ball’s men have taken four points from six since their 6-1 hammering at Exeter City, suggesting they are getting back on track following that miserable afternoon in the West Country.

“It’s very simple – if Colchester wants to challenge for promotion then they have to be strong enough to take something from games like this one,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“Scunthorpe have notably improved and will be confident, particularly having won at home for the first time last Saturday. But we must be resilient, show mental toughness – the experienced players in the squad like Tommy Smith, Dean Gerken, Tom Eastman and Callum Harriott must be leaders. We have to head up there believing we can get something.

Crawford continued: “I still think we have a group of players in with a shout of getting promoted. The fans have started to come back and by the end of the season, we should all be back together in the stands. How good would it be to sign off this torrid period in history by giving them something to celebrate.”

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Scunthorpe United 1-1 Colchester United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Scunthorpe United 2-0 Colchester United
