Ray’s unsure where desperate U’s go from here?

Colchester United v Scunthorpe United – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Ray Crawford wasn’t sure where to start when previewing Colchester United’s ‘must win’ Sky Bet League Two encounter with rock bottom Scunthorpe United at the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday.

Comfortably beaten by Port Vale and Sutton United during the past week, the U’s sit uncomfortably just above the relegation zone while disgruntled supporters called for Chairman, Robbie Cowling to resign.

“There doesn’t seem to be a lot of love around the place at the moment,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“The supporters are fed up and I don’t blame them because as a former player, I class myself as one.

“Colchester’s football has been dull and unimaginative for too long. The results justify that as do the performances. You can’t expect people to be satisfied with what they are seeing at the moment. It really isn’t good enough.

“I said before the Sutton match, I’m quite fearful that we could go down this season. I usually look for the positives, but they are few and far between at the moment. it is very worrying.”

Bottom of the table Scunthorpe arrive in North Essex having recorded a rare win last weekend. Another three points at the JobServe would see them move level on points with Colchester: “It’s quite serious,” Crawford added.

“If we lose on Saturday, I’m not sure where we go from here? I’d imagine the manager is under pressure. Nobody wants to see a man lose his job, but the truth of it is, Colchester’s football is dull and not getting results. Something has to change, and quickly!

“This group of footballers have far more ability than they are currently showing, but their confidence must be on the floor. Some of them perhaps need to give themselves a shake and ask if they can do a bit more for the team? Regardless, we have won three out of fourteen matches. That sort of form isn’t going to keep you up.

“I think Scunthorpe will arrive with their tails up after beating Crawley Town last weekend. I’m concerned we don’t have the spirit and determination to knock them over and keep them at arms-length.”

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Colchester United 1-1 Scunthorpe United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Colchester United 1-0 Scunthorpe United
