Rochford Council in public consultation on CCTV in the district

Rochford District Council has launched a consultation on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in the district to understand the impact and views of local residents.

The council has formed a member working group to look at the viability and need for a public CCTV system in the district, with part of that research being to engage with the public.

Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Community, Cllr Mike Webb, said: “We are aware that whilst there are those who want to have CCTV, there are others who do not and as such we would welcome everyone’s views so that we can make a fully informed decision and help us to understand the role CCTV might play in making our residents feel safer.

“With budgets becoming tighter each year we have to prioritise council spending and ensure that we are using public funds responsibly and efficiently to meet the wants and needs of our residents. Consultation responses will help us to direct our approach and future possible investments in CCTV.”

The consultation will run until Monday March 9.
