Rovers boss Butterworth grateful for Blues visit

Great Wakering Rovers v Southend United – Pre-season friendly – Burroughs Park – Tuesday, July 20 (7:45pm)

Great Wakering Rovers manager, Steve Butterworth can’t wait for this evening’s pre-season warm-up fixture with Southend United at Burroughs Park.

Despite the Blues relegation from the EFL after more than a century of membership, the Roots Hall Stadium outfit remains a big draw and Butterworth hopes to see a huge crowd of local football enthusiasts in attendance at the Rovers home.

“I must thank Phil Brown for bringing Southend over again,” the Rovers chief told Yellow Sport.

“We have always had a very good relationship with Southend United, going right back to when I was a player here over a decade ago.

“As well as being a mammoth test for our boys, Southend appreciates that the income generated for a club like ourselves goes a long way towards securing our season.”

Butterworth added: “Hopefully, we can get as many people over as possible and give them an entertaining evening.”

The Burroughs Park turnstiles open at 6:45pm for a 7:45 kick-off. Admission; Adults – £10, Concessions – £5, U16s (with full paying adult) – £1,

Meanwhile, the Rovers have learned their Emirates FA Cup and Buildbase FA Trophy opponents.
