Rovers stung by better Bees

Great Wakering Rovers v Basildon United – Pitching In Isthmian League North – Burroughs Park – Report

Great Wakering Rovers 1-4 Basildon United

Great Wakering Rovers are rooted to the bottom of the Pitching In Isthmian League North table after suffering their third-successive setback, this time at the hands of a ruthless Basildon United outfit at Burroughs Park.

Both sides went into the game off the back of sizable defeats. Rovers crashed 4-0 at Aveley on Friday evening, while Basildon ran into an in-form Grays Athletic side, slipping by seven unanswered goals at Gardiners close.

But in front of an August Bank Holiday crowd of 127, Samuel Jeremiah handed the visitors the lead from the penalty spot and Nathan Fuma doubled their advantage three minutes before the interval.

Tyrone Baker put the contest beyond reasonable doubt shortly after the restart. And although experienced frontman Martin Tuohy pulled one back for the villagers, Luke Hirst added a fourth for Basildon three minutes from time.

While the Rovers prop up the division, Basildon United moved up to twelfth.
