Rowett satisfied with Lions toil

Millwall 1-1 Brentford – Reaction

Gary Rowett was satisfied with his sides toil following their 1-1 Sky Bet Championship draw with much-fancied Brentford at the Den.

“I thought we were excellent and it’s a testament to my players for the number of chances we created against which should be a top-two side this season,” he told told www.millwall.co.uk.

The former Birmingham boss added: “For starters, we used the ball very well and scored an excellent goal – the type of move we have been working on for the last nine months.”

He revealed: “Jed Wallace hasn’t scored many headers – although he hasn’t told me that! But, it was a good move involving Mason Bennett pulling out their full-back and Jed going in at the near post.”

Rowett claimed: “I was incredibly disappointed with the penalty. Hutchinson only had his arms on Toney. It was dubious to say the least. And, we should have had a penalty after Nørgaard pulled down Jon Dadi Bodvarsson”.

He concluded: “But we created some excellent chances. Brentford are a good side – they can wear you down – but we did very well to press them.”

Meanwhile, Bees’ boss, Thomas Frank, told www.brentfordfc.com: “It was a game between two good teams and I think Millwall will definitely be up there, in and around the top six”.

He added: “We did have our spells when we were on top, but throughout, Millwall were a threat with their aggressive play.” The Dane concluded: “There were moments when we should have taken our chances. But, we were ‘okay’ – without hitting a top performance level.”
