Southend Saxons 12-25 Brentwood
DIRECTOR OF RUGBY, Josh Ward, offered an honest assessment of proceedings after witnessing his Southend Saxons side slip to a London One North defeat at the hands of promotion rivals, Brentwood, at warners Bridge.
A large pre-Christmas crowd gathered at the Seasiders home ground. However, it was the fired-up visitors who were to take the honours and gain revenge for a defeat handed to them by the Saxons during the early weeks of the campaign.
“Today was a simple one for me, Brentwood were outstanding and we were awful,” Ward bemoaned.
“I’m not going to sugarcoat things at tougher times, we’re an honest group and not much needs to be said after that one.
We had some good moments naturally, but on the whole, they played with energy, tempo and desire, three things we lacked today. We were second best in every area which as I said is extremely frustrating as it’s a mentality thing.
“We are training throughout the festive period which is needed, one thing I know about our group is that it is filled with character and good guys.”
Ward added: “There are four teams locked on 47 points now, twelve rounds remain and we are in the race.
“Our support didn’t have much to shout about today but they were excellent and will continue to play a massive role throughout the run-in.”
