Saxons looking for cup success

Southend Saxons v Brentwood – Essex Cup Final – Warners Bridge – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Southend Saxons have an opportunity to secure silverware when London One North rivals, Brentwood visit Warners Bridge for this afternoon’s eagerly anticipated Essex Cup final.

Saxons have been in sparkling league form throughout the campaign and could finish as high as fourth with a victory in their final match at Colchester next week.

In the cup, Josh Ward’s men booked a place in the showpiece event with a victory over Thurrock in the last four.

Despite the hindrance of the pandemic, progress at the seaside club has been notable during Ward’s reign: “We have worked extremely hard. The atmosphere and mood around the club is exceptional,” Ward told Yellow Sport.

“The cup final is a fantastic achievement by the players but is also a reward to everyone connected and supporting the club. We want more occasions like this one. Out progress has been steady but noticeable. This is the next step on the ladder.”

Ward continued: “Brentwood will provide stern opposition. We have a win each from the two league meetings. We know it will take another big effort from everyone to ensure the trophy finds a home at Warners Bridge.

“There will be a big crowd at our home ground. We are honoured to be staging the game. It would be the perfect ending if we can give our supporters a cup win to celebrate.
