Southend Saxons 50-21 Horsham
Southend Saxons RFC returned to action for the first time in eighteen months and made up for lost time with a thrilling 50-21 friendly win over an impressive Horsham side at Warners Bridge.
In front of a decent crowd, Tom Day particularly took the eye with four tries, while Ben Llyod kicked five conversions: “We were really pleased with a lot of aspects of our game,” Director of Rugby, Josh Ward told Yellow Sport.
“The opening 20 and last 20 was a typical pre-season encounter. Early on was littered with unforced errors, and the later stages bodies dropping everywhere.
“Pleasingly though I felt we played some really fluent, accurate attacking sets resulting in some great team scores. It gave us a really good idea of where we are and what we need to focus on this week.
Ward added: “Horsham we’re a handful, they played with purpose and it was a great exercise for both teams. They’re a great club full of good people.
“Today was about getting some dust off the lungs, working hard for each other and enjoying the moment of being back out there after eighteen long months.”
Southend Saxons return to action on Friday, August 20 when Battersea Ironsides are the visitors to Warners Bridge (7:45pm).
