Chingford 8-26 Southend Saxons

SOUTHEND SAXONS got their London One North promotion push back on track with an impressive victory at Chingford.

Despite providing a brave performance, the Saxons had seen their recent unbeaten sequence brought to its conclusion a week previous by league leaders, North Walsham. However, the Seasiders ruthlessly recovered, with Tom Ramsey, Tom Day, Chris Vaughan and Mitch Bennett all crossing the line in a 26-8 success.

And it proved to be an important victory. Promotion rivals, Colchester, found themselves on the wrong end of an 18-13 scoreline at Eton Manor – the Saxons further tightening their grip on second place as the table stands.

Speaking after the match, Saxons Director of Rugby, Josh Ward, enthused: “It was a really big day for us, to see the response after last week was just superb.

“The first fifteen minutes I’m keen to forget about as lots of us took far too long to get into the game but once we found our feet I thought we were clinical and to secure a bonus point away from home in those conditions, very pleasing.”

Ward added: ”To put five senior teams out today and secure 5 wins, it shows what this club is all about. It’s part-thirteen ticked off, the halfway point of the season and we’re in the running.

“Each week has one hundred per cent focus so if we get the outcome we enjoy it after, then our focus will quickly shift to Brentwood next week. It should be a special day at Warners Bridge.”
