Eton Manor 27-27 Southend Saxons
Southend Saxons extended their unbeaten London One North sequence to four matches and were agonisingly close to causing an upset against league leaders, Eton Manor at Nutters Lane.
In truth, the Saxons – huge underdogs going into the contest – were left frustrated not to have secured a fourth-straight victory of their own.
Matt Bevan crossed twice for the Seasiders, while there were further tries for Tom Day and Jack MacVeigh, while Tom Ramsey chipped in with a penalty and two conversions as the Saxons established a seemingly unassailable advantage going into the final stages of the match
However, a sizable penalty count proved costly to the visitors, allowing Manor to close the gap and ultimately secure a share of the spoils with a last-gasp try which they were unable to convert.
The result saw the Saxons move up to sixth in the table. They return to London One North action on Saturday, October 23 when Leighton Buzzard visit Warners Bridge (3pm).
