Southend Saxons 88-7 Ruislip
SOUTHEND SAXONS underlined their London One North promotion credentials with a fourteen try demolition of Ruislip at an icy Warners Bridge.
Director of Rugby, Josh Ward, significantly rotated his starting fifteen, notably with Alfie Justice and Tom Mowle handed debuts as the Seasiders looked to stay in touch with North Walsham and Colchester, who occupied the top two places.
Ruislip arrived in south-east Essex propping up the table without a single point, having lost all nine of their league matches this season. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this was another contest in which they were never really in contention.
Matthew Wagstaff led the Saxons charge with a first-half hat-trick, while Connor Cooper crossed twice and Justice marked a memorable day with a try of his own as the home side reached the interval holding an unassailable lead of fifty unanswered points.
Initially, the precession continued after the break. However, Ward was clearly agitated as his side struggled to replicate their dominant first-half performance.
A Rulsip try – albeit a scant consolation – drew a frustrated reaction from the Saxons chief. But when Mowle followed Justice’s earlier lead to score, the home side served notice that they were back on track.
Mowle and Justice both added further tries, while Tom Ramsey kicked ten from fourteen to confirm a mammoth victory and five priceless points.
Southend Saxons return to London One North action on Saturday, November 23 when they travel to Woodford (3pm).
