Scopes and Smith resign from Beach Boys roles

Buildbase FA Trophy finalist, Concord Rangers are on the lookout for a new manager after Danny Scopes left the club following a two-year stint in the Aspect Arena hot seat.

A popular figure in the local game, Scopes had previously worked with Great Wakering Rovers as well as alongside Danny Cowley during an initial spell with the Canvey-based club.

In a short statement to Yellow Sport, Scopes explained: “I handed in my notice on Sunday.

“It’s all a bit sad and quite raw at the moment but I wish the club well for the future and hope to get back into the game after recharging the batteries.”

The Vanarama National League South outfit was rocked further when Chairman, Antony Smith also announced that he was to step down from his position at the club.

A statement posted via Mr Smith’s Twitter account said;

It is with sadness but immense proudness that I have decided the time is right for me to step down as Chairman of the club.

The past few months and days have taken their toll on me personally, and my love of the game has dwindled.

The decision making at all levels of our game have been embarrassing over the past months, I feel all I have done over the last year is battled for the good of non-league football.

21-years is a long time as Chairman of a club, but I leave it in a good place with a very healthy cash reserve and no debt, also overseeing around £750kin ground improvements to facilitate our position in the National League

I have experienced so many proud moments with so many fantastic people, the proudest still being what I was told was the impossible, promotion from the Essex Senior League, the biggest win I achieved was defeating the Health & Safety Executive and Castle Point Council.

I will continue to support the club financially, and as always on the terraces.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank so many wonderful people that I’ve had the pleasure of working with and supporting with at a very special club.
