Scopes ready for Beach Boys derby challenge

Concord Rangers v Billericay Town – Vanarama National League South – Aspect Arena – Saturday 1pm – Preview

Danny Scopes is looking forward to Concord Rangers’ Boxing Day derby with Billericay Town. However, the Beach Boys boss admitted that the traditional festive fixture won’t be the same without the crowd.

“The Boxing Day buzz will somewhat flatter without them,” Scopes told Yellow Sport.

“The fans are massively important to us. We usually get a bigger turn up for the Bank Holiday games as well. As well as our own supporters, a big contingent of away followers adds to the atmosphere and the humour. We miss them terribly – Every club will tell you exactly the same.

Despite their disappointing Buildbase FA Trophy exit, Concord’s Vanarama National League South form has picked up of late with four points coming from back-to-back matches with Bath City and Eastbourne Borough: “We will be doing our utmost to build on that sequence,” Scopes added.

“We have a couple of niggles amongst the squad but hopefully a weeks rest will leave us with a clean bill of health and a full squad to select from.

“It’s always a good game with Billericay. Like us, they are striving to climb the table. It will be another good test and a challenge we must be ready for.”
