Several individual performances caught the eye during Essex’s Second XI Championship draw with Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl, Southampton.

Jamal Richards stole the show in a weather-affected contest, scoring 114 off 152 balls during a 230-minute stint at the crease.

Meanwhile, Simon Fernandes finished unbeaten on 92 as Essex, responding to Hampshire’s 292, posted 301. 

Earlier, Aum Patel’s four for 34, and 3/57 from Mackenzie Jones were the standout performances with the ball for the visitors, while Richards enhanced his reputation further with 2/62.

Richards had a further 3/42 during Hampshire’s second innings before the inclement condition drew an early conclusion.
