Ambitious Shoebury Rovers have romped to the Southend & Basildon Sunday League Division Two title, setting several impressive club records.

Celebration time for Southend & Basildon Sunday League Division Two champions, Shoebury Rovers

Rovers concluded their successful campaign with a resounding 5-1 victory over Hawkwell Athletic at Apex Corner, leaving them fourteen points clear of second-placed Ecko Whitecaps, who have a game to play.

During the season, the Cupids-based outfit amassed fifty-two points and scored 119 goals, helping them win seventeen of their twenty league fixtures. It has been an amazing turnaround for the Rovers, founded in 2022, and who had finished towards the wrong end of the table in their inaugural season.

Regrouping and forming a reserve section provided a ridged backbone on the playing side. At the same time, JDL (Jonathan David Limited), Sean’s Garden Maintenance and Landscaping, Premium Tiling and Carpentry and RLT Designs had loyally backed them through sponsorship deals allowing the club to flourish.

Nash Hackett and Billy Cottrill

Speaking to Yellow Sport, Chairman and Player, Nash Hackett said: “It’s been an amazing season for the boys. Everyone has put in one hundred per cent and left it all out on the pitch, week in, week out.

“It’s been a pleasure to play alongside such a group. We are proud of the achievement that we worked so hard to accomplish. The players should all be proud of themselves.

“I’d also like to thank all the family and friends who turn up every week, no matter the weather, to support us. Now we are looking forward to next season. Let’s see what we can do.”

Skipper, Billy Cottrill added: “Being captain of the first team was an absolute rollercoaster. But we dug deep when we had to. The boys stuck together and won the title whilst a few teams still had four or five games to play. Bring on next season. Hopefully, we can do it all over again.”

“From when we started as one team, to where we are now with two is a massive achievement. I can’t thank the lads who took control of the reserves enough, keeping it going and giving the lads a chance to play football.

Managers, Chris Cole and Martyn Smith added: “What can we say about this great bunch of lads? It’s hard for us to pick out a single player of the season because everyone gave it their all every single week.”
