Essex v Warwickshire – LV Insurance County Championship – Cloudfm, Chelmsford – Day One – Summary
Warwickshire 159/7 (66.4 overs)
Essex (Yet to bat)
Warwickshire won the toss and have elected to bat
Australian right-arm fast-medium Peter Siddle took four Warwickshire wickets on the day he was finally acquainted with his 2019 Championship winning medal and presented his Essex county cap.
The 36-year-old received those accolades during the lunch interval. The presentation was made in front of the limited few Essex supporters returning to The Cloudfm County Ground following the gradual lifting of lockdown restrictions.
At that point, Siddle had already seen off Bears skipper Will Rhodes and Rob Yates – the latter seeing his middle pole emphatically sent pirouetting.
Siddle trapped Sam Hain lbw and dislodged Michael Burgess’ off stump on his way to 4/36. Sam Cook chipped in impressively in the gusty conditions. The 23-year-old taking 2/43 before a concoction of rain and bad light ensured an early conclusion.
Tim Bresnan and Burgess had put on 56 for the fifth wicket – Bresnan was still there at the enforced close on 47. Play resumes on Friday at 11am.
