Old Southendian 1st 1-2 Old Southendian 2nd
Old Southendian second-string gave their first XI something to think about after recording a narrow pre-season triumph at Garon Park.
Tom Smith bagged a brace for the victorious reserves – Tom Marge with the misfortune of a 30-yard own-goal in response for the senior side.
Nevertheless, second-team Manager David Manley insisted that there was a bigger picture than the result: “We said today was all about the performance, not the result so to play well and win the game was excellent,” he told Yellow Sport.
“It was the first time playing a different formation and we had a few new faces in the squad.
All the lads did superbly well playing some lovely football. There was a good competitive edge to the game and both sides fully committed which was great to watch.
Special mention must go to Tom for his two goals, although Nico Dubouchet brilliantly assisted with both.”
