Shane Snater took six Glamorgan wickets helping Essex take charge on day one of their LV=Insurance County Championship Division Two encounter at Sophia Gardens.

Snater finished with figures of 6/39 as the home side were knocked over for 134. Simon Harmer claimed 3/46 – Dan Douthwaite, Glamorgan’s shining light with the bat, hitting 39 off 69 balls during his 86 minute stint at the crease.

Nick Browne followed up an impressive century for the Essex second XI by reaching fifty at the close. Dan Lawrence stood firm on 29* ahead of linking up with England later this week. Alastair Cook and skipper, Tom Westly the men out – both finding Chris Cooke’s gloves off delivered from Lukas Carey and Timm van der Gugten respectively.
