There were mixed fortunes for Highlands in the Mixed First division. Their first match of the season ended in a 9-0 defeat away at Westcliff Seconds. Matt Tonge and Farnaz Siddiq, David Clark and Liz Cullen and Matt Ayres and Barbara Childs made up the triumphant Westcliff side. Tom and Gill Crosby went to three games in all three of their rubbers for the visitors.

However, they bounced back against Phoenix Flames Thirds with a 7-2 win. They started the match 3-0 up as Phoenix couldn’t field an eligible third pairing and Tom and Gill Crosby and Tim Rainbow and Hannah Crosby won two rubbers each on the night to secure victory. Jo Howard-Simpson and Jay Clarke and Corinne Telling and Gary Rose picked up one win each for the Flames.

Elsewhere in the division, Phoenix Flames Seconds began their season with a narrow 5-4 win away at Eastwood. Tim Baskett and Sara Thompson picked up a hat-trick and were supported by a brace from Russell Dobson and Carly Horsler. Martin Rainbow and Dawn Muggleton won two rubbers for Eastwood while Gary Webb and Debbie Moon and Adrian Watling and Clare Roberts got one win each.

In the division above, Westcliff won 7-2 away at B&BP. Lee Scott and Ady Munro won three perfect rubbers and were supported with two wins each from Avram Chua and Daphne Yap and Matt Ayres and Farnaz Siddiq. Emma and Dan Potter helped the home side to their two points.

Westcliff were also victorious in the Masters Premier as they beat 4-2 Hawkwell at home. John Hall won all three of his rubbers for the home side with Phil Crabtree and Andrea Lloyd grabbing the other to get the win. Heidi Paine helped Hawkwell to their two points.

Elsewhere in the division, Fitzwimarc beat Phoenix Flames 5-1 away. Spencer Collins and Paul Chaplin both won three rubbers each for Fitz. Mandie Breed and Vikki Walker helped to get the Flames point.

Phoenix responded well though as they won 6-0 against their Seconds. Tim Baskett, Peter Lewin, Mandie Breed and Tracey Haylett made up the winning side. Rob Dunn and Sara Thompson came closest to getting a rubber for the Flames second team.

Finally, Leighway started their Ladies Premier season with a comfortable 6-0 victory over Westcliff. Viv Gillard, Sue Crompton, Mia Petchey and Elle Wanitchaya Bolton comprised the winning team.
