Phoenix Flames bounced back from their opening league defeat in the Mixed Premier to edge past B&BP 5-4. Vikki Walker and Ben Bradford and Tracey Haylett and Danny Peach both won two rubbers each for the Flames with Carly Horsler and Andy McMahon getting the crucial rubber to seal victory overall. Emma and Dan Potter secured a hat-trick for the visitors and Wendy and Paul Hyde won the other as they just lost out.
There was also victory for a Phoenix Flames side in the Masters Premier as their Third team beat Westcliff 4-2 away. Jill Beaver starred for the visitors as she won all three of her rubbers with Ron Lucas and Corinne Telling grabbing the other to guarantee the win. Phil Crabtree helped Westcliff to their two points.
Elsewhere in the division, Hawkwell picked up a first win of the season with a 5-1 home triumph over Fitzwimarc Seconds. The scoreline was closer than it looked though as four of the six rubbers went to three games. Caroline Trace and Heidi Paine both picked up hat-tricks for the home side while Andre Rudder and Malcolm Woodruff helped Fitz to their point.
Fitzwimarc eased past B&BP at home in the Ladies Premier as they won 6-0. Pam Lee, Sarah Hall, Chloe Baker and Emily Hall made up the winning team for Fitz. Jenny Webb and Tamsin Collinge came closest to grabbing a rubber for the away side.
There were mixed fortunes for Fitzwimarc’s two Men’s sides in the Men’s Premier. The first team secured a 9-0 home victory over B&BP. Liam Bellingham and Michael Clark, Ryan Pinnock and Alan Adkins and Paul Chaplin and Spencer Collins all won three perfect rubbers. Adam Cooper and Steve Burn came closest to getting a rubber for the away side.
Fitz Seconds though suffered a 9-0 defeat away at Riverside. Rob Clark and Fraser Bradshaw, Tom Pennington and Alan Gibbons and Tom Grafton and Raff Pratheek Badrinath all secured hat-tricks with the former two pairings not dropping a game.
In the Men’s First division, Blenheim and SLH Rayleigh started their campaigns with the former securing a 6-3 win away at SLH. The visitors started 3-0 up due to an ineligible pairing for their opponents but Nish Tanna and Chris Roberts, Andy McMahon and Lee Bussey and Jon and Brodie Beavan all won one rubber each on the day to ensure victory. Andrew Strutt and Tom Negus picked up a perfect three rubbers for SLH Rayleigh.
