The Southend and District Badminton Association leagues returned after the Christmas break with four matches and three of them in the Mixed First division. Westcliff Seconds inflicted the first loss of the season on SLH Rayleigh as they beat them 5-4. Barbara Childs and Matthew Pearson and Farnaz Siddiq and Isaac Pearson both won two rubbers each while Christina Scott and Callum Linge grabbed one to secure victory. Jan Watt and Peter Hall recorded a hat-trick for the home side and Andrew Strutt and Judy Slater won one as SLH stay in third, one place above Westcliff Seconds.

It was a good week for the league leaders as Phoenix Flames Seconds won back-to-back to extend their lead at the top of the division. The first win was an 8-1 triumph away at Hawkwell. Danny Peach and Corinne Telling and Tim Baskett and Sara Thompson both won all three rubbers and were supported by a brace from Carly Horsler and Jay Clark. Hannah and Tim Rainbow helped the Hawks to their point.

The Flames then edged past second placed Fitzwimarc Thirds with a 5-4 victory. Sara Thompson and Russell Dobson and Carly Horsler and Humaid Ghori secured two rubbers each with Kiv Gray and Danny Peach getting the other for the win. Chloe Peacham and Gary Curtis and Donna Venables and Adam Dixon-Peters both notched doubles as they were just edged out but are just nine points behind the leaders with two matches in hand.

Finally, Phoenix Flames Fourths made it three wins from three in the Masters First division with a 6-0 win at home to Westcliff. Corinne Telling, Kana Hazlewood, Joe Aguinadlo and Ron Lucas made up the winning team for Phoenix with Kana not dropping a game. Mark King came closest to grabbing a point for the visitors.
