Southend and District Badminton Association League – week 13

Fitzwimarc moved level on points with league leaders Hawkwell in the Masters Premier after a 5-1 victory over Phoenix Flames Thirds. Spencer Collins and Paul Chaplin both secured hat-tricks for the home side as Fitz made it five wins from six this season. Jo Howard-Simpson and Corinne Telling secured the point for the visitors who remain bottom.

Elsewhere in the division, Westcliff won 5-1 away at Eastwood to move up to fifth. Philippa Pearson and Phil Crabtree both picked up three rubbers each. Lorene Roberts and John Kindred won the rubber for Eastwood as they stay in seventh.

Phoenix Flames picked up their second win of the season in the Mixed Premier with a 5-4 win away at Fitzwimarc Seconds. Ben Bradford and Vikki Walker won three perfect rubbers and were supported by a rubber each from Mandie Breed and Andy McMahon and Danny Peach and Tracey Haylett. Emily Hall and Harris Foster-Carter and Sarah Hall and Ryan Pinnock both bagged a brace for Fitz as they were just edged out overall.

In the division below, SLH Rayleigh moved up to second as they made it three wins from three with a 6-3 victory over league leaders Westcliff Seconds. Clare Burrell and Gavin Lewis, Judy Slater and Andrew Strutt and Caroline Fletcher and Tom Negus all picked up two rubbers to help the side to the win. Matt Ayres and Farnaz Siddiq won all three of their rubbers for the away side as Westcliff lost for the first time this season.

Eastwood won their penultimate match of the Mixed Division One season with a 5-4 win away at Phoenix Flames Thirds. They started 3-0 up as the Flames couldn’t field a third pairing and Lorene Roberts and John Kindred won two rubbers on the day to secure the win overall. Gary Rose and Corinne Telling and Jay Clark and Jo Howard-Simpson both won two rubbers each as they finish their season in fourth spot.

Finally, Chase edged past SLH Rayleigh in the Men’s First division with a 5-4 victory. Peter Greenslade and Jinu Jacob and Vini Kunnath and Praveen Rajan both won two rubbers each with Kevin Edwards and David Desouza getting the other for victory overall. Zak Pryor and Adam Whiting won all three of their rubbers for SLH with Mike Smith and Peter Hall winning one.
