Southend and District Badminton Association league – week 6

Fitzwimarc Thirds made it two wins from two in the Men’s First division with a narrow 5-4 victory over Blenheim. Five of the nine rubbers went to three as Siva and Aditha Krishnamoorty won a perfect three rubbers for Fitz. They were supported by a double from James Williams and Malcolm Woodruff to seal victory for the home team overall. Alex Tonge and Ron Lucas secured two rubbers for the visitors while Andrew McMahon and Lee Bussey and Chris Roberts and Nish Tanna won one each.

Hawkwell continued their impressive start to the Masters Premier season as they made it four wins from five with successive 5-1 victories. The first came against Eastwood at home as Keith Wood and Heidi Paine were both unbeaten on the night with Heidi not dropping a game. Dawn Muggleton and Martin Rainbow helped Eastwood to their point.

They then won 5-1 away at Phoenix Flames Thirds. Keith was again unbeaten along with Jamie Cole but two of the six rubbers did go to three. Jill Beaver and Corinne Telling secured the point for the Flames who have lost four of their opening five matches.

Elsewhere in the Masters Premier, Fitzwimarc won 5-1 away at Westcliff. Pam Lee and Angela McDaniel both won three rubbers each for the visitors for a second victory of the season. Phil Crabtree and John Hall helped Westcliff to their point.

Westcliff saw off Fitzwimarc Seconds 7-2 in the Mixed Premier. Adrienne Munro and Lee Scott picked up a hat-trick and didn’t drop a game while Jade Timms and Matt Tonge and Farnaz Siddiq and Avram Chua both bagged a brace. Kera Lewis and Oliver Smith and Donna Venables and Liam Bellingham won a rubber each for the home side where five of the nine rubbers went to three.

In the division below, there was also victory for Westcliff Seconds as they beat Eastwood 9-0. Liz Cullen and David Clark, Farnaz Siddiq and Matt Tonge and Andrea Lloyd and Matt Ayres made up the winning home team. Dawn Muggleton and Martin Rainbow came closest to grabbing a point for the visitors.
