Southend and District Badminton Association league – week 7

Blenheim secured a second win of the season in the Men’s First division with a 7-2 victory over Westcliff Seconds.

Andy McMahon and Lee Bussey picked up a hat-trick for the home side with Colin Campbell and Brodie Beaven and Jon Beaven and Chris Roberts both winning two rubbers each. Isaac Pearson and Dhakshin Gopalakrishnan and Peter Lewin and Callum Linge won a rubber each for the visitors.

Elsewhere in the division, Fitzwimarc Thirds won 7-2 away at Hawkwell to go top of the table. James Williams and Malcolm Woodruff won all three of their rubbers and were supported by braces from Adam Dixon-Peters and Craig Walsingham and Roger Jones and Tarun Goel. Gavin Lewis and Russell Dobson helped the Hawks to their two points.

In the Men’s Premier, Westcliff made it two wins from three this season with an 8-1 win away at Phoenix Flames. They were already 3-0 up as Phoenix had an ineligible player but Lee Scott and Phil Crabtree and Matt Tonge and Matt Ayres both won two rubbers each on the night. Avram Chua and Matt Pearson won the other point for Westcliff. Ben Bradford and Danny Peach helped the Flames to their point.

There were two matches in the Masters Premier with Fitzwimarc Seconds and Phoenix Flames sharing the spoils in a 3-3 draw. Phil Tuffee and Julie Ingham both won two rubbers each for Fitz while Tracey Haylett and Peter Lewin both grabbed braces for Phoenix.

In the other Masters match, Phoenix Flames Seconds were edged out 4-2 at home by Westcliff. Andrea Lloyd secured a hat-trick for the visitors with Mark King and John Hall grabbing the other rubber to clinch victory overall. Sara Thompson picked up a double for the home side.
