Southend Council to show residents’ seafront photos on big screen in town centre

A VIDEO showcasing ‘the best of Southend’s coastline’ will have its debut on a big screen in the town centre tomorrow.

In July, Southend Council asked residents and visitors to share photos of the borough’s seafront on Instagram and tag the council’s account.

The scheme was part of a larger campaign called ‘Pride and Joy’. The next phase of the campaign will be unveiled in the next few weeks, the authority said.

The council received more than 300 photos, some of which had been incorporated into a presentation which will air every day for the rest of September, starting on Tuesday, September 17.

The video will play daily, between 1pm and 2pm, on ‘The Big Screen’ – a large screen outside The Forum in Elmer Square, next to South Essex College.

Cllr Kevin Robinson, cabinet member for culture and tourism, said: “The response to our Pride and Joy campaign has been wonderful and I would like to thank everyone who took part in creating our first Pride and Joy screening. I am looking forward to seeing the community’s photos displayed on the big screen.”

Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment, added: “We have a beautiful, vibrant coastline, attracting residents and visitors daily.

“We have received many amazing and creative photos showing what people love about our seafront. I hope many will visit The Big Screen to see what our community has created and feel inspired to take part.”
