Southend involved in high scoring derby draw

SOUTHEND HOCKEY MEN’S first XI was involved in a hugely entertaining East Division 3SE draw with local rivals, Old Southendian.

James Lockwood, Phil Puncher, Ben Aldridge and Lee Styles were all on target – Puncher claiming the Southend Man of the Match accolade following a thrilling 4-4 draw.

Southend occupies sixth place in the table, although with the Covod-19 outbreak in mind, it currently looks unlikely that any further matches will take place this season.

Southend’s second string endured a tough afternoon, going down by five unanswered goals against a strong Saffron Walden side in East Division 5SE. Meanwhile, it proved to be a better afternoon for the men’s third XI who won a terrific East Division 9SE clash with Thurrock by five goals to three.

Billy Baker led the way with an impressive hat-trick, while Mickey Walsh and Tom Garrod for the second-placed Southend side.
