A registered sex offender has been jailed for offences including sexual assault on a child under 13 and making and possessing indecent images

Ian Ortis of Boscombe Road, Southend, was jailed for a total of 16 years when he appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Friday December 2.

He will also serve an extended licence of eight years and will be subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life.

The offences took place between January 1, 2018 and his arrest on Monday March 21.

The forty-year-old was arrested after the Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) received information that Ortis, on a lifetime licence, had been accessing indecent images of children via the internet.

Officers seized five devices from his address.

When they were forensically examined, they found imagery of Ortis sexually assaulting his victim.

He was recalled to prison immediately.

Detective Constable Matthew Wright, investigating, said: “This footage was very difficult to watch.

“Ian Ortis is a predator and a risk to others. Our communities are safer now he is behind bars.”

Ortis was charged with:

  • Assault of a child under 13 by penetration
  • Sexual assault of a child under 13
  • Causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity
