It has been agreed to suspend enforcement of all one hour yellow line parking restrictions in Southend until Sunday May 3, as the council continues to ask people to stay at home to help tackle the coronavirus outbreak.

Many people are now working from home and this decision should help enable that and help the community to stay at home as much as they can.

Cllr Ron Woodley, cabinet member for transport, capital and inward investment, said: “The clear message from Government and from the council locally is to stay at home whilst we continue to tackle this unprecedented outbreak. your individual actions can and will save lives.

“It is therefore vital that those who are able to work from home do so. These restrictions are usually in place to stop residential areas being blighted by commuter parking, but obviously that is currently less of an issue as people rightly stay at home to work.

“We will continue to monitor this ongoing situation and will of course share any information and updates as and when we can.

“Please continue to follow Government advice. Please stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.”

The council is taking daily decisions and actions as it responds locally to the Coronavirus outbreak and further updates will be issued and our Coronavirus webpage is being regularly updated.
