Southend Saxons 36-26 Old Haberdashers
DIRECTOR OF RUGBY, Josh Ward, was reasonably satisfied with Southend Saxons winning start to their London North One campaign but recognised there was room for improvement.
Saxons led 26-7 at the break but found the going tougher after the turnaround as Old Habs made a fist of the contest.
“It was definitely a game of two halves that we’ll take a lot of learnings from,” Ward explained.
“I thought we played some outstanding attacking rugby in the second quarter and secured the bonus point early as a result.
“Naturally, we’re disappointed with our second-half showing, I felt we were incredibly short-changed at times and on the receiving end of some interesting decisions – but we’re delighted how the boys found a way to get us over the line in the closing moments.”
Ward was quick to praise the Saxons following, who again turned up in good numbers:
“The support was phenomenal and got us through some tricky moments. It was never going to be the complete performance today but there’s plenty for us to be excited about going forwards and plenty for us to address ahead of Brentwood next week.”
