Southend On Sea & EMT got their Foster Division season off to the perfect start with a 36-run success over Leigh On Sea in a match staged at Rankins CC.

Having been invited to bat, Matthew Mohan led the way with 71, while there were half-centuries for Joe Sibbons and wicketkeeper/batsman, Phil Gray as Southend posted a challenging 201/6 – Zak Impey’s 3/35 the pick of the Leigh attack.

And that proved ample as Southend dismissed the visitors with four overs to spare. Iain McDonald did his utmost, top-scoring for Leigh with 33. However, Dev Shah’s devastating 4/30 paved the way for the host’s success.
