ESSEX SENIOR LEAGUE outfit, Walthamstow, has stated their intent with the addition of Terry Spillane to their backroom staff as assistant manager.
Spillane will add his vast experience to Max Mitchell’s coaching team as the ambitious Wadham Lodge side look to achieve promotion following the frustrating curtailment of the last campaign.
Having previously worked at the helm with the likes of Frenford, Stansted, Maldon & Tiptree, Redbridge and Aveley, some could be forgiven wondering why Spillane hasn’t taken the top job at an equally eager club; “Max is an ex-player of mine and when he started his management career, he has always kept in contact with me and I have always tried to help him along the way,” he explained to www.walthamstowfc.com.
“We had a conversation a few weeks back about something different and he ended it with asking me what I am doing next season. I wasn’t sure and he asked if I wanted to help him out. I brought into the structure and plans for the club.
“I like the idea of working with Max and I’m a local boy from Chingford so I knew all about the club. I have always kept a close eye on the only non-league club for that area.”
Spillane’s knowledge could prove vital in a league where Walthamstow will undoubtedly face stiff competition fro Hashtag United and Saffron Walden Town.
“Saffron Walden, Takeley or four or five others could compete at the top – Stansted might have a say,” he added.
“Hashtag will be one of the favourites so the pressure will be on them and they will have the backing financially but I think we will have something to say ourselves.”
